Chisato's New Heart
Chisato lives differently with her new heart. Do you?
Happy Friday! Today, I want to talk about hearts, both physical and spiritual.
I recently saw this beautiful idea that Twwk posted on Twitter, which got me thinking about this topic:
Scripture teaches that in Christ, we’re given a new heart. What a beautiful picture. Like a surgeon, God replaces what was diseased and failing with something new—no longer clogged by the sin and brokenness that once shaped us. We’ve been made healthy and new.
The tweet struck a chord for me personally. When I was a baby, I was diagnosed with two heart conditions: LQTS type 2 and congenital heart block.
At three months old, I received my first pacemaker—a device that helps my heart to function properly—since it won’t on its own.
Having had that experience, it’s easy for me to connect with pediatric heart patients in film or television. The vast majority of them have been in anime, including Chisato from Lycoris Recoil.
Chisato, a member of an elite group of female agents known as Lycoris, lives with an artificial heart. Without it, she would die.
She’s so grateful for her heart that she uses her life to guard the lives of others. Although the other Lycoris don’t hesitate to kill, Chisoto refuses to take another person’s life.
She received a new heart, and her new heart encourages her to live differently from the other Lycoris.
Ezekiel 36:26 (ESV) says:
And I will give you a new heart, and a new spirit I will put within you. And I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh.
God gives us a “new heart.” Even though my physical heart isn’t in the greatest shape, it really doesn’t matter because my spiritual heart is what’s worth investing in.
God gives us that new heart when we accept Christ into our lives. We become His child, and our desires start to reflect God’s. It’s not an instant process—our walk with God is and will always be a journey—but it will always be worth investing in.
If you’ve received a spiritual heart transplant, don’t neglect the new heart you’ve been given. Like Chisato—used it for others, and God’s glory, too, and he transforms you more and more into his likeness.
Weekly Mission: This week, let’s reflect on the beauty of a new heart that’s right with God. Let’s pray and think about Psalm 51:10 (below). Ask God to work on your heart this week to reflect His love, His joy, and His purpose for your life. And, reflect God’s heart in your interactions with others—whether in person or online.
Memory Verse: “Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.” ~ Psalm 51:10 (ESV).
